Scale and Speed in Difficult Environment

Connectivity pole in middle of street

Overview

Tilson Infrastructure’s customer, a major wireless communications service provider, needed to improve its network coverage and capacity in Fort Lee, New Jersey, which is a densely populated city across the river from Manhattan that experiences frequent traffic congestion.

Challenge

The City of Fort Lee is concerned with pole proliferation and ROW congestion. Permitting new poles has historically been difficult in all of northern New Jersey, and in many cases has taken two years, or more, to secure all necessary entitlements.

Solution

Tilson Infrastructure provided site acquisition and oversaw pole construction, test and turn-up and pole development on 34 poles.  Tilson was able to deliver the solution less than one year after receiving the notice to proceed (NTP), a remarkably fast turn-around for any heavily populated urban area. The elements of our success included obtaining Fort Lee’s municipal consent for all 34 poles in 10 weeks, having well-informed site selection and consistent communication with the municipality that resulted in a 100% “first time” success rate, turning around design revisions quickly by self-performing design work, tight management of required regulatory review,  warehousing and management of the customers’ equipment that included adopting of their internal coding system, and deft management of power provisioning and inspections.

We Can Help

We provided a customized solution at scale that enabled our customer to leverage its fiber supply and expedite time to market, and ultimately provide better wireless service to mobile customers in Fort Lee.
